The National

The National é uma banda de indie rock formada em 1999, em Cincinnati, Ohio. Suas influências variam de Bruce Springsteen a Tindersticks. A banda tem as letras escritas e cantadas por Matt Berninger (com sua distinta voz grave). O resto da banda é composta por dois pares de irmãos: Aaron + Bryce Dessner e Scott + Bryan Devendorf; Sendo assim: Aaron (guitarra, baixo e piano), Bryce (guitarra), Scott (baixo e guitarra) e Bryan (bateria). Padma Newsome (banda Clogs) muitas vezes contribui no instrumental (guitarras, teclados etc) e nos arranjos. Durante os primeiros anos, a banda se manteve relativamente no anonimato, sendo reconhecidos/admirados por pequenos grupos (admiradores do género indie-rock); Isso só mudou em 2005, quando a banda assinou com uma novo selo, Beggars Banquet Records, lançando com este seu 3° álbum intitulado Alligator. Com o Alligator a banda foi "aclamada" pela crítica e muitas vezes este foi citado como "Álbum do Ano". Dai pra frente só alegria... a banda "acertou na fórmula". O seu ultimo álbum, Boxer (2007), foi um grande sucesso de vendas e recebeu elogios generalizados da crítica; nele contaram com a participação de alguns artistas, incluindo Sufjan Stevens e Doveman. Ficaram em 1º lugar na lista de melhores álbuns do ano (pela revista Paste Magazine) e tiveram canções do mesmo inclusas em séries e filmes. Em Dezembro de 2008 a banda comunicou que estavam iniciando a gravação do novo álbum e que o lançamento deste estaria previsto para fim de 2009, inicio de 2010. Fãs aguardam ansiosos... *-*
